IT Market Overview
International Market Insight
The IT market taken as a whole (hardware, software and services) reached $1.67 billion in 2003, showing a 19.9 percent increase over 2002. The hardware segment led the growth with a 72.2 percent increase from 2002 to 2003, highlighting the increase in sales of PCs. The drivers were the impact of the economic recovery and the increasingly widespread need for Internet access. In fact, the first quarter of 2004 witnessed an increase of 21 percent of ADSL lines vis-à-vis December 2003. Furthermore, the halt/delay in investment in technology during the two-year period of the recent Argentine crisis (2001-2002) will continue to be the leverage that will keep demand of IT hardware, software and services considerably high throughout 2004 and 2005. How high demand can get will go hand in hand with the sustainability of the economic recovery.
