The
city of Cordoba was founded on July 6, 1573, by Jerónimo
Luis de Cabrera, on the banks of the Suquía River. It is
the capital of the Province of Cordoba and has around 1,300,000
inhabitants.
Located in the geographical heart of Argentina, Cordoba lies in
the center of the transoceanic corridor that links the ports of
Rosario, Argentina and Valparaiso, Chile and is about 440 miles
from Argentina’s capital, Buenos Aires.
Argentina’s second largest city and traditionally a vibrant
student hub, Cordoba is considered today to be the technological
center of Argentina. The
suburb of Falda is home to the Argentine Spaceport and a variety
of high-tech international companies have offices in Cordoba or
its outlying areas. A
popular tourist destination, Cordoba combines a rich culture with
a variety of outdoor activities such as paragliding, rafting and
hiking. Cordoba is
connected to the surrounding areas by virtually every form of
transport available; there are train lines, river routes, air
connections and highways to all parts of the country and internationally.
